In the last 3ds max tutorial requests post (pero_me) asked for an airplane tutorial.
For me actually it’s interesting to do so here it is, a 3ds max tutorial series about how to make a Douglas dc-10 airplane 3D model.
This first part demonstrates how to make the modeling of the plane body, then in the following parts we will continue the modeling then we will do all the material using vRay and try to make it photo realistic.
For me personally it’s a lot of fun, i hope you guys enjoy this as well as i do.
Don’t forget to press the like button if you like it.

thanx Abanoub ..
hi Oman,
The file is just a .max file and it doesn’t have the blueprints so i see nothing but white planes.
Make sure you go to File->Archive and send me the compressed file and i’ll be glad to help you out.
ops sorry ..
this is the compressed file

No problem with your file man, you just needed to align everything together using the move tool.
I did this for you :)
here’s your new file http://www.speedyshare.com/files/28842819/airlplane.max
so the parts ( left front top ) i’ve cut it correctly in photoshop ??
thanx a lot. but, it doesn’t work .. they type.. file open failed
oh .. maybe because i used 3ds max 2012, anyway i did nothing but moved them to the right place, everything else is correct.
thank u very much …:)
Thanks Abanout for the other great tutorial.
Another great 3ds max tutorial!
From 21:00, how did you start the tail ? I can’t do it, it just won’t glide. Help me please.
what do you mean by the tail ?? i haven’t modeled it yet!
send me a screenshoot of the model please so that i can know where the problem is.
Thanks
ummm what can I say …
Look at the first part at 21:00, when you start stretching the cylinder to create the rear of the plane. How did you do it ?
If you can’t do it the way i did you can simply use the same method i did with the front, use a sphere then attach it to the back area.
Okay then, thank you.
But isn’t it weird that I can’t stretch the cylinder using only the edge’s points, but with the full face yes ?
Thank you so much for this….
Really Enjoyed and learned many new things…
Hey Abanoub, Thanks for this tutorial series..
There is one prooblem happening.
When I click on freeze , to freeze all plane..all the pictures of it not available to see. It was gone.It only shows gray plane…
Help.
make sure you unfreeze the planes again, select them, right click and shoose properties, then uncheck Show frozen in gray, then freeze again.
Hello, Abanoub, I love your tutorials, they are very detailed. I completed the first part of the airplane for the first time. I can’t make the edged faces to turn black like you have them. I have 3d studio max 2012.
It’s easy, just change the color of the object to black and apply a default material to it.
Thank you, that was easy. Now, when I installed 3ds max, the axis was nice and showed 3D-arrows and somewhere along the line it only shows lines for arrow. Even after resetting max I still can’t get the 3D to come back. Here is a picture of what I’m talking about:

just press the X button for it to come back :)
Thank you! It was driving me mad, I considered re-installing MAX for such a silly thing. :)
i wonder if you can do a tutorial for train modeling.
Thank you very much
very nice
always thank you so much
Hey, I was looking for accuall airplane models, but I stumbled upon this. I am a 16 year old modeler, and I am pretty damn good at it. This is a f-ing amazing tutorial. Luckily, i’ve been working with alot of tools that you used in this tutorial, so I am powering through the tut. I stopped it just to comment because of how awesome it is. Keep up the good work mate!
Thanks alot, hope you like our other tutorials too :)
